Sheet masks have been around in the beauty world for some time now. Yet, the popularity of the sheet masks just keeps growing. It seems like women all around the world just love this little piece of fabric that give their face a reborn in just 15 minutes. It’s easy to use and supercharged your skin with moisture and leave your skin glowing.
Asians have loved the sheet masks since forever. Sheet masks have been evolving from day one and now you can find a sheet mask solution for almost any of your skin problems. For instance, anti-aging, moisturizing, soothing and acne problems.
The Morning Mask is a new sheet mask trend that started in Japan (at least that’s where I first heard of a morning mask). The first-morning mask that I first heard of is Saborino morning facial sheet mask. Then slowly brands like Laneige and Starskin also come out with their own version of morning mask. The Saborino became very popular in Japan and it’s one of the best selling masks in Japan in the year 2017. The product claimed to complete your skincare routine in one step and in 60 seconds. In other words, you don’t have to go through the cleansing, toning, moisturize steps. Just one sheet mask in 60 seconds and you are good to go.
So.. What Is a Morning Mask?
A morning mask is a mask designed specifically for you to use in the morning. All the morning masks have common traits such as refreshing, moisturizing, light-weight and time-saving.
It makes sense that companies selling these morning masks to women. The last time I checked, most women that I know are busier than the men. Besides, women spend more time getting ready than men.
So here it is. The magical skin care product that will save you time so you can snooze your alarm at the same time make you look good? Hell yeah!
The morning masks come in different variations, for example, cotton pad size, mask pack, and sheet mask.
All the morning masks are paired with a refreshing scent to wake you up a little bit more and feel refreshing at the same time.
Secondly, the masks have a really lightweight texture, so your skin won’t feel tacky and greasy after the mask. The lightweight texture absorbs quickly into your skin, so you don’t have to wait to apply your makeup.
In addition, all the morning masks offer you a dose of moisture that you need for the day. It feels like you apply your essence and day cream to your skin.
Last but not least, most of the morning masks allow you to complete the skin care step in a short amount of time. In most cases, just 5 minutes. The morning mask lightly exfoliates, tones, moisturizes and prep your skin for makeup in a few minutes.
Vs Regular Sheet Mask
The regular sheet mask and the morning mask share some differences.
One big difference that distinguishes the both is the regular sheet masks are packed with more essences, also preserve all the ingredients better than the morning mask.
Sheet masks have been evolving a lot since it first came out. And to be honest, I’d categorize the morning mask into the sheet mask family. Sheet masks also come in different fabric type and purpose. Fabric such as cotton, hydrogel, and bio-cellulose with moisturizing, anti-aging, brightening effect. On the other hand, morning masks are mostly made of cotton with a moisturizing and refreshing effect.
However, you do need to spend more time (10-15 minutes) on a regular sheet mask to work its magic. The essences also have a thicker texture so might need more time to absorb into your skin. Hence, a regular sheet mask is not suitable to use in the morning unless you have the time to spare.
Should You Jump on the Bandwagon?
Clearly, the morning mask trend is absolutely perfect for people that still want to maintain their skin even when they have a busy morning schedule. All your skin care steps can be done in just 5 minutes of time, how convenient. Just like I’ve mentioned above, I’m sure you already have a pretty good idea of what can a morning mask do for your skin.
Now, let’s talk about the downside. First of all, it’s not the most hygienic skin care product to use on your face. I mean, think about it. The packaging is either in a pack or a small bottle like this.
The instructions did state that tries to finish the product as soon as possible once you open it. Two reasons behind that, first of all, the germs and bacteria might trap inside easily especially if you reach to the mask without thoroughly washing your hands.
Secondly, the mask dries out pretty quickly once you open it. Have you ever used a wet tissue before? Well, basically it’s the same idea. If you don’t use the wet tissue fast enough, they will no longer be wet even though you think you seal it properly.
Besides, due to the whole idea and the poor packaging, I’m not surprised to find out that preservatives are one of the top ingredients on the ingredient list in these morning sheet masks. Preservatives like paraben and 1,2-Hexanediol are used to help to prevent bacteria festered inside the product and prolong their shelf life.
If your skin is prone to sensitivity especially towards preservatives, I highly suggest you take a closer look at the ingredients before you try it on your face. On a side note, finish the mask as soon as possible once you started to use. By doing that, you’ll get the best result and also decrease the risk of getting bacteria to your face.
Notable Ingredients
Despite the high usage of preservatives, these masks still contain some notable ingredients that are good for your skin. For instance, Glycerin and Betaine. These ingredients are amazing to replenish your skin and keep your skin moisturized.
Is It Suitable for Dry Skin?
Well, the texture is extremely light and refreshing, I think it’s safe to say that it’s 100% good for spring and summer time. With that being said, you might have to put on your own moisturizer in the winter to prevent dryness on your skin.
