How I Choose My Moisturizer

Moisturizer is a crucial product in your skincare routine. A good moisturizer will seal and lock every nutrients and vitamin into your skin and prevent moisture loss. It is like the final step to seal your skin at the same time give your skin an extra layer of protection. I like to see moisturizer as the skincare product that provides nutrients to the outer layer of the skin. On the other hand, serum as a product to provides nutrients to the deeper layer of the skin. Therefore, both products are equally important to me.

There are three elements that I look into when it comes to purchasing a moisturizer.

  • texture
  • packaging
  • ingredients

First of all, the texture of the moisturizer. I have very dry skin, therefore I need a moisturizer that is more ‘oily’ especially for my night skincare routine. As for the day, I prefer to go something more lightweight because I live in a tropical country. So it’s like 24/7 summer in here. In addition, I apply makeup on my skin almost every single day. However, even if your moisturizer is lightweight doesn’t mean that it is quick to absorb into your skin. So when it comes to texture, I definitely just looking for a texture that can be spread evenly and easily absorb into the skin.

Secondly, the packaging. This is something that I just recently take into consideration. I think a good packaging does matter when it comes to keeping the skincare ingredient fresh and effective. I wrote a post about skincare packaging earlier. You can click the link to find out more information if you are interested. I still use moisturizer in jar packaging because it just works well on my skin for now. But I hope the company will change the packaging in the future.

My favorite type of skincare packaging is a tube or with a pump. Those are way better, cleaner and easier to use in my opinion. Skincare packaging is something that I look into, but it is not exactly like a deal-breaker to me regardless of the type of packaging.

Lastly, the ingredients. My favorite ingredient in a moisturizer is glycerin, squalene, plant extracts, and niacinamide. These are the ingredients that work best on my skin at the moment. I find them moisturizing and soothing to use. Ingredients like niacinamide also help with acne and dark spots. I have freckles and dark spots on my cheeks. Niacinamide helps to lighten those dark spots and brighten my skin as well.

Physiogel Daily Defence Replenishing Night Cream

Physiogel Soothing Care Anti-Redness Night Cream(link)

I tried this one during those days when my skin was sensitive. My skin barrier was damaged, and it made my skin react to a lot of skincare products. This one is specifically formulated for dry and sensitive skin. It is safe to use, there’s no colorants and perfumes. I loooove the ingredients and it comes with a pump. It contains glycerin, niacinamide, squalane, and ceramide. These ingredients are like the best ingredients you can use on your skin for your damaged skin barrier. Unfortunately, they didn’t sell this on Amazon, they have a really similar version, which I provide on the link above.

Innisfree Orchid Youth Enriched Cream(link)

Honestly, Innisfree orchid cream is one of the most moisturizing creams I’ve ever tried in my life. It comes in a jar but it has three different textures. I use the Orchid Youth-Enriched Cream, and they have a lighter in gel texture and an intense cream texture as well. You can just pick the texture that works the best for you. It is affordable but it works so well.

If I layer this at night, my skin always feel plump, soft and moisturized the next day. It contains squalane, niacinamide, glycerin and orchid extract which are the ingredients I love. What I don’t really like about the ingredients is dimethicone. I’m not a big fan, but this is by far the most moisturizing & affordable face cream I’ve tried.

The texture of the cream is also great. It’s just so easy to use on your skin. It spread out evenly and absorbs quickly without leaving any residue on your face. Your skin just feels like it has 8 glasses of water. Besides, it lays under your foundations perfectly. I’ll put two layers at night, I find that gives me the best result on the next day.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream(link)

I’m a huge fan of First Aid Beauty. The products that I’ve tried are the products that I’ll keep repurchasing. This ultra repair cream is one of them. This cream never caused irritations on my skin. The texture is so smooth, it spread like a dream. To be honest, it is not those cream that you’ll wake up and feel like your skin is transformed overnight. But it is one of those creams that feel very very safe to use on your skin. It contains shea butter and ceramides which are good for damaged skin barrier. Apart from that, it also relieves my itching and redness. It’s a very soothing and basic moisturizer that I can count on(a good husband material) during my bad skin day.
