Review: Melvita Original Argan Oil vs Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil

I first heard about argan oil years ago. I decided to try it out because my skin is very dry and flaky.

If you are new to my website, I have dry and sensitive skin. My skin is prone to redness and feels tight especially after face wash. So I always crave for glowy and radiance skin. Hence, beauty oil is like a dream come true for me.

There is a wide variety of beauty oils you can pick such as rosehip oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, and argan oil. Argan oil is fantastic to provide hydration to your skin. In addition, it is safe to use for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Apart from that, argan oil is rich in vitamin E that helps to even out and brighten my dull face.

I finally finished both of the argan oil that I purchased which is Melvita Original Argan Oil and Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil. So I want to share you my thoughts. I’m currently halfway using my third bottle of argan oil, and I definitely will get my fourth bottle.

Texture

Despite both claimed to be 100% pure argan oil, the texture is a tad different. Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil has more watery texture compare to Melvita Original Argan Oil. Josie Maran 100% argan oil also absorb slightly faster than Melvita Original argan oil. Nevertheless, both are easy to apply and smooth.

Ingredients

The ingredient is very simple, which is 100% of organic Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil. Both are safe for all skin types to use. Furthermore, both are paraben free, Formaldehyde free and mineral oil free.

But if you have sensitive skin, it’s best to test on a small patch of your skin first.

Packaging

Josie Maran definitely wins big on the packaging. Both come in a classic glass bottle. Josie Maran argan oil comes with a dropper and amber bottle. On the other hand, Melvita original argan oil has a pump in a transparent bottle. The bottle comes with a dropper always better than a pump in my opinion. Argan oil can be used in so many different ways, and a little goes a long way.

Don’t get me wrong, Melvita’s pump is still great, but it’s hard to measure in drops. Often time, one pump can be too much on some occasion.

I like to mix one or two drops of argan oil with my foundation to give my skin a dewy finish. It makes my makeup last longer too. Therefore, a dropper is more convenient and accurate in this case. Besides, dark bottle helps to extend argan oil’s shelf life.

Price

Josie Maran argan oil costs $48.00 (USD) while Melvita argan oil costs $29.99(USD). Both contains 50ml(1.7 fl. oz.)  pure argan oil. Melvita is definitely cheaper. If you get it in Europe, it only costs $19.99(Euros) which is around $23(USD).

Regardless, I don’t mind paying $48.00 for argan oil because it is so versatile.

You can use it to moisturize all over your body even on your nails. Plus, if you put it into comparison, there are many face creams on the market that cost as much but not as versatile.

Furthermore, do you know it takes 2 days of handmade production effort to extract 1 liter of argan oil? The production of argan oil is time-consuming. It involves cracking the nut, gently roast them and lastly grind and press them.

Result

Argan oil is definitely one of my skincare staples. It helps me get through cold and dry winter, and give me a healthy glow. Anyway,  I tested on my face, body, and hair.

And honestly speaking, I can’t really feel the differences for these two argan oils.

They are both nourishing and didn’t clog my pores. As for now, I will continue with Melvita Argan Oil because of the price point and I only use argan oil at night. You can continue to read if you need a more in-depth review.

Face

Both have a very similar result on this one. They both repair my skin and improve my skin tone. I enjoy both of them on different days.

Josie Maran 100% argan oil is quick to absorb, and it comes with the dropper. I enjoy this one in the morning when I have to be quick and efficient to go to work. It blends well with the foundation too. I particularly love the fact that I’m able to precisely add a drop of argan oil to mix with my foundation.

On the contrary, I have to be very careful when trying to mix foundation with Melvita pump. Melvita Argan oil needs a bit more time to absorb into my skin.

However, this makes Melvita argan oil perfectly for me at night. When I want some ‘me-time’ and one pump of argan oil is perfect to massage my face. Josie Maran argan oil is slightly lighter in texture and quick to absorb. You can still use it to massage your face, but maybe you might need to add a few drops during the massage.

Body

Most of the time, I’ll only apply body lotion on my body. However,  I’ll use argan oil on my body to boost the hydration occasionally. I’ll add a few drops to my body lotion and apply all over my body. Not only it gives me intense hydration but also easier to absorb.

I personally feel Melvita give my body a better result. It feels smooth and supple the next day. I was disappointed with Josie Maran oil in this case. It still hydrates my skin nonetheless, but the effect is short.

At least I can’t tell there’s any difference when I wake up from bed the next day.

Hair

I have oily scalp but dry hair. Josie Maran argan oil works perfectly on my hair. It helps me to tame and smooth my frizzy hair. The formula is so light, it absorbs quickly into my hair without leaving an oily residue.

Just put a few drops on your palm and smooth it with your palm. Then just massage to your hairs especially your hair ends.

Your hair immediately feels soft and shiny. Additionally, you can also massage argan oil to your scalp. It restores and nourishes your dry, flaky scalp.

Final Verdict

In short, if you are new to beauty oil and would like to give it a try, Melvita argan oil is a good dupe for Josie Maran argan oil. Even though tons of beauty bloggers rave about beauty oils, it doesn’t mean you will like it for sure. The best thing about argan oil is they can be used in so many different ways.

Just in case that you really don’t enjoy it on your face, you can still use it on your hair or body.
