How I Got Rid of My Closed Comedones/Small Bumps on My Jawline

Do you ever have these tiny, little bumps on your skin? It’s not acne nor blackheads. It doesn’t cause any pain or irritation but your skin texture is very rough. According to the website verywellhealth, a closed comedo (singular of comedones) develops when a plug of skin cells and oil becomes trapped within the hair follicle. The plug fills the follicle, swelling it out and creating that bump that you see on your skin. You can’t cover them with foundation or concealer. You also realized it’s extremely hard to get rid of them. When you try to pop them, nothing seems to come out. It’s very frustrating because it’s not as visible as acne. However, it’s extremely difficult to get rid of them, and it makes your skin rough and your foundation looks cakey.

My closed comedones are less visible in this picture, they are really small bumps around my jawlines. But you can still see some of them are infected and become acne. This is why you should not neglect them when they first started to spread.

Perhaps this picture shows it more clearly.

And this is how my skin look like now.

How I Got Rid of My Closed Comedones on My Jawline

I had closed comedones on my jawline for about a year and a half. I was very insecure and try every way that possible as long as I could get rid of it. And I did it! These are the ways that I included in my daily routine and slowly clear up my skin.

  • Use minimal skincare products
  • Toner is your best friend
  • Keep your skin clean
  • Drink more water
  • Try to sleep before midnight

Using Minimal Skincare Products

First of all, choosing the correct products for your skin is crucial. I was clueless about what caused the problem because I didn’t go to any dermatologist. So I was trying to think and monitor my daily routine. It might be to my skin care products or hormonal imbalance. I started to be more cautious about my skin care products since then.

I try to keep my skincare routine minimal by just giving the skin what they need which is hydration. No brightening, detox, pore tightening whatsoever(it was so difficult for me).

My skincare only targeted for hydrating or moisturizing my skin. Nothing else.

I used cleanser, toner, hydrating essence and face cream for both day and night. In that case, it’s a lot easier to monitor my skin condition. If you are using many different types of skin care products, it’s gonna be very hard for you to track and monitor your skin. Keep your skin care routine as minimal as you could, until your skin is clear up again.

Products that I use to clear my skin:

1.Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner

2.Dr Jart Ceramidin Serum

3.First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration

Toner is Your Best Friend

I used to think toner does nothing to my skin. I often feel like being cheated by the company selling expensive toner. After all, 80% of the content in the toner is water. Isn’t that ridiculous that we all have to pay so much money for water? I was young and didn’t have many skin problems by then.

It wasn’t until last year that I’ve changed my mind about toner.

Toner has now become my savior whenever I have a skin problem because my skin is quite sensitive. Ironically, the reason behind it is because it has such high water content in the toner. That being said, you don’t have to worry about your skin react to it. It’s very rare that toner will cause skin breakout.

Now, this is how I use my toner to clear my closed comedones on my jawline.

  • First, pick a toner without alcohol preferably with simple ingredients. You can also pick a soothing toner if your skin is prone to redness.
  • Next, pour your toner on a cotton pad, and make sure the cotton pad is soaked with toner.
  • Lastly, place the cotton pad to your jawline for 5 minutes. Remove them and apply your moisturizer after 5 minutes.

There are two results you might encounter after you follow this method.

First one, the tiny, small bumps are gone. Secondly, some of the bumps will turn into whiteheads or blackheads. If you don’t know how to properly remove whiteheads or blackheads, it’s best to seek help from the professional.

As for the toners, I personally think these products work the best. If you have a moisturizing essence, you can also add one or two drops to get rid of your small bumps even faster.

I use this and also this, both of these toners help me clear my skin and I’m still using them until today! If you have sensitive skin, maybe this toner is good for you.

These toners are simple yet effective to treat problem areas on your face. When you are trying to heal your face from a skin problem, keep in mind that less is more and they need time to heal. Therefore, getting a product that is simple will help your skin to heal without creating more problems on your skin.

Keep Your Skin Clean

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of a good cleansing regimen. Always keep in mind that you should remove your makeup and wash your face before you go to bed. Remove your makeup and washing your face are two completely different things. Makeup leads to clogged pores and causes breakout. I use a facial cleansing device to wash my face every night. It removes all the impurities and keeps my face clean and soft.

Keep your hands away from your face. I never thought of this before a friend of mine mentioned it to me. Then I realized I always rest my head in my hand when I was thinking.

No wonder that my jawline’s pores are clogged!

Sometimes people don’t realize and do it unconsciously, touch their face without cleaning their hands. As a consequent, the bacteria spread to your face from your hands. Keep your hands out of your face unless they are clean.

Drink More Water

Drink more water seems like to be the answer for all skin-related problem. Water keeps your body hydrated. A reporter from the UK, Sarah Smith tried to drink three liters of water a day. Her skin looks absolutely dewy and younger in just four weeks of time. I’m always guilty of not drinking enough water. But my skin breakout was so bad, I tried to drink as much water as I could.

At first, it seemed a lot because you didn’t form the habit. But you just have to keep reminding yourself and stick through it.

Water flushes out toxins from your body, thus it helps clear out your skin. In addition, water also keeps you hydrated and plump-looking skin. I got a big water bottle and filled that up in the morning and make sure I finish at least one whole bottle that day.

Try to take four to five sips whenever you drink the water. If you keep thinking to finish up one big bottle, it’s could be hard. Hence, take four to five sips each time makes it easier. It’s just like setting a few small goals to yourself before you hit the ultimate goal.

Try to Sleep Before Midnight

Yes, that’s right. Not only you have to get enough hours of sleep, but also sleep early. The process of repairing and detoxing your body starts before midnight according to the traditional Chinese medicine method. Chinese doctor encourages people to sleep before midnight because they believe 11 pm – 1 am is the period that your liver is most active in detoxing.

If you are still actively working on something, your brain is processing a lot of information. As a result, your liver detox might not be the most effective. When you having closed comedones only on your jawline, it’s possible that your body is trying to detox. Why not give your body a helping hand when it’s trying to detox?

What’s more? Every hour of your sleep before midnight is worth twice as much and gives you a better quality of sleep.

If you force yourself to stay awake and push the point of sleepiness, it will be harder for you to fall asleep later. You wake up in the morning feeling unproductive and tired.

I’m not going to lie, it was really hard for me as I always slept late for the past few years. At first, I just lay on the bed for an hour but not asleep. Regardless, I consistently do it for a week, and the second week got better. Now I really enjoy going to bed early and waking up fresh in the morning. I notice my acne and scars fade away faster than before.

A Follow-Up

Hi, my dear readers. It’s been quite a while since I wrote the article. I did not expect much from this article, I just wanted to put the information out, hopefully, to help someone because I was reading a lot on the internet, hoping that I could find a solution for myself. I’m really glad that I received a lot of feedback from the readers and this information had helped them clear out their bumps.

Here’s a quick update in 2022. It’s safe to say that I have officially got rid of my closed comedones around my jawline. I honestly cannot emphasize enough how important cleansing is. Many people overlooked and do not clean their skin properly. If you are someone that unsure how to clean your skin properly, consider investing in a cleansing device as I mentioned above. I promise you will see great differences and your skin will thank you.

Secondly, if you have a habit of touching your face, that’s a big no-no. It was hard at first, but I’m glad I did manage to stop this habit with constant reminders.

If these tips work on your skin, please let me know 😀
