Best Organizing Tips – How to Organize Your Beauty Products

Do you know how many beauty products you buy each year or each month? I try to keep my skincare routine as simple as I could, but I still own 10-15 products(just for my face) every time no matter how hard I try. This amount of products are just part of my collection, I own more than that most of the time. Therefore, keeping each product organized and easy to reach has become my life mission.

Let’s go through how many products can a girl possibly own if she has a complete skincare routine.

  1. Makeup Remover/ Oil Cleanser
  2. Face Cleanser
  3. Toner
  4. Serum
  5. Eye Cream
  6. Moisturizer
  7. Exfoliator
  8. Mask
  9. Sunscreen
  10. Lip Balm

These products are like a basic skincare routine that I think it’s essential. I did not include products like pre-serum, eye serum, sheet mask, face oil, spot treatment and many more. So as you can see, 10 skincare products may sound a lot, but it’s actually not that when you put them into a list. So girls, keeping your beauty products organized is basically keeping your life organized. I mean, we love each product like our baby, right?

Where Should You Store Your Beauty Products?

Before I get into the details, keep in mind that your beauty products should store in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight. Sunlight can heat up the products and break down the active ingredients, as a consequence, your skincare product will be less effective.

In addition, the bathroom is not a great place to store your beauty products either. The environment in the bathroom is humid which is a perfect place for bacteria and mold. Moreover, constant change of the temperature like steam from a hot shower or bath also affects the effectiveness of a product.

What About Keeping Beauty Products in the Fridge?

Well, cool temperature is great for some skincare products and tools such as vitamin C serum, retinol, and jade roller. If you store your retinol and vitamin C serum in the fridge is going to prolong their shelf life as cold temperature slows down the degradation of the products. You can also place your jade roller in the fridge for 10-15 minutes before you use it, in this way, it will be more effective to depuff your eye and face. You don’t have to put every product into your fridge, room temperature is good enough for most skincare products.

Do You Need a Skincare Fridge?

My first thought of a skincare fridge is so Instagram worthy! (but so extra). After I do my research, I understand why some people invest in a skincare fridge. Most of the skincare products do not require a cold temperature because it doesn’t make much of a difference(source) according to Howard Sobel, a dermatologist based in New York.

You might ask if that’s the case, why the heck would people invest in a skincare fridge? So if you love using a jade roller or want to keep your vitamin C serum effective as long as you could, a skincare fridge might be worth investing. In addition, if you are really devoted to skincare, you might not want your skincare products or tools to smell like your overnight food and use it on your face. Eww.

Organizing Tips

1. Declutter Your Products

Declutter your products first before you start organizing.  Trust me, you don’t want to have 40 products lining up on your vanity without using them. A simple skincare routine can be just as effective, you really don’t need to overdo skincare routine. Be rational and realistic, keep the product that you absolutely love and enjoy using. Get rid of the products that don’t work on your skin or irritate your skin. If the product caused irritations on your skin, you will not use it on your face ever again in most cases.

It can be difficult to give away your skincare products once they are used but try to ask around if your friends or family members want them. Sometimes a product that doesn’t work on your skin might work well on other skin types.

Secondly, get rid of all the products that expired. Expired skincare products will not be effective and beneficial for your skin. Therefore, always keep an eye on the shelf life of a product.

2. Consider Invest a Multipurpose Storage for Small Space

If you live in a small space, consider invest a multipurpose organizer and keep everything organize and tidy. Putting everything on the vanity table or bathroom look messy and you might need to look for your product each time you want to use it.

In addition, you might not even have space for a vanity table if you live in a tiny studio. A multipurpose organizer might be costly but it’s gonna make your life so much easier.

You can store everything including your jewelry pieces, makeup products, and skincare product all in one place. Keeping everything in a single place, it’s gonna save you so much time and energy getting ready in the morning.

3. Store Your Tube Packaging Products Vertically

I store almost all my skincare products in the tube vertically unless they are in an aluminum or smaller tube. These products including face cleansers, face creams, and hand creams. In this way, you can easily locate the product and use it. Besides, when you store the tube vertically, you can minimize the waste of the product. All the cream inside the tube will naturally flow to the bottom due to gravity. However, if you are using a brand new product or it has a really soft and fluid texture, maybe you can store it flat first. When the product is still new, there’s a high chance that it will overflow and get stuck in the seal cap.

4. Lay Your Sheet Mask Flat

This is a common mistake that many people unaware of, but if you want to get the most out of your sheet masks, store them flat. If you store your sheet mask vertically, all the essence of the mask will get in the bottom of the packaging instead of the sheet mask itself. Laying flat also makes sure that all the essence is distributed evenly on the sheet mask. If the essence is not distributed evenly, it may end up some part of the sheet mask drying out faster than the other part and you’ll have to remove the sheet mask before the estimated 10-15 minutes.

Sheet masks work as a booster treatment on the skin because they contain active ingredients. So you want to store them away from direct sunlight. I like to store them in a drawer because it’s away from the sun. In addition, you can put soothing or calming sheet masks into the fridge for a couple of minutes before you use them to enhance the soothing effect.

5. Try Not to Stack Your Beauty Products

When you have a ton of beauty products and running out of space, you will find yourself start stacking your beauty products. The ultimate victim in this scenario is the product with jar packaging because they have a flat surface. You stack your toner, your face wash or another jar on top of the jar. Stacking your jar products is not a good solution when you try to organize your space. It also makes it harder to reach as well. Don’t you sick off removing the product on top each time before you use it?

If you really running out of space, try to stack the product on top of the jar products that you use weekly. For example, a face mask or face scrub.

6. Keep Your Drawer Tidy with Drawer Organizer

Drawer organizer comes in different sizes and shapes, so you need to roughly know what products are you storing in that drawer. I like to use a transparent drawer organizer because I feel that it makes everything a lot more tidy and easy to find, just crystal clear.

Alternatively, keep the skincare box that comes together with your skincare products. A beauty box can be reused as your drawer organizer as well. In this way, you are saving money and reduce your waste.

I store smaller products in the box such as eye cream, spot treatment, and lip balm. These products get lost easily due to how small they are. With a drawer organizer or a box, you can easily find and use them.

7. Don’t forget about Cotton Pads and Q Tips

If you have a habit of using cotton pads and Q-tips, store them separately in an organizer with lid. In this way, it will keep your cotton pads and q tips clean and hygiene. Don’t store your cotton pads and q tips in an open space because it will be easily contaminated by dust and bacteria. Besides, storing them in a jar also saves up more space on your vanity or countertop.
