I traveled to Japan back in April. While I was there, I decided to pick up some sheet masks that specifically to moisturize dry skin at the local drugstore.
During my days of growing up, K beauty wasn’t as huge as it is now. J beauty is definitely a bigger trend than K beauty back then. In fact, the first skin care product I’ve ever purchased is from Japanese brand Kose.
Even though nowadays it’s become more and more easy to get access to a variety of skin care products from all around the world. J beauty skin care products still have a place in my heart because of the quality and the price of the products.
Why You Should Try Out J Beauty Products

As we all know, Japan produces high-quality products in almost all fields. So it’s not surprising to find that their beauty products (both skin care products & cosmetics) are in top quality. Japanese skin care products always have the perfect texture that can penetrate into your skin in a short time.
Secondly, the choices of the products are overwhelming. You can almost find any skin care products that are suitable for you no matter what kind of skin type you have. In addition, you can hardly find a bad product because of the fast pace and competitive beauty industry.
Lastly, the price point of Japanese skin care products is safe for your wallet. Of course, they have big and luxury brands like Pola, Clé de Peau Beauté, and SK II. But you can easily find affordable skin care products that will give you a good result on your skin at a lower price point.
Putting The Sheet Masks to The Test
In this article, I’ll measure and rate the sheet mask in mainly two aspects. First, the material of the sheet masks and the water content in my skin.

First of all, it’s the material of the sheet masks is crucial because not only that it needs fit on your skin but also deliver the essences to your skin. It’s very hard to tell the differences between before and after for the sheet masks, especially with moisturizing sheet masks. So I use my moisture monitor to measure my skin’s water content and let the result speaks for itself instead. Last but not least, it’s the ingredients that make your skin plump and soft.
Secreto Voce Hyaluronic Acid Premium Mask
The material of the sheet mask fits well to the skin, will stay on your skin even if when you are walking. The sheet mask is able to cover my entire face. It contains 30ml of essences and it is formulated without colorant, fragrances, and alcohol. Hence, it is safe to use on sensitive skin as well.
This sheet mask still feels moist when I remove it after 15 minutes. And my skin feels intensely hydrated. In addition, this sheet mask helps fight dull skin. It contains super serum C apprecier which has 100x penetrations compare to vitamin C. With super serum C apprecier, you do not need a high percentage of vitamin C to work well on your skin. Thus, it penetrates deeper into the skin, give maximum effect and minimal irritations.
Before I put on this premium mask, the water content in my skin is 39.2%. My skin’s water content boost up to 69% when I remove the mask after 15 minutes. The water content maintains at 47.7% the next morning.
Kose Clear Turn Babyish Moist Mask
The material of the mask feels like a regular cotton sheet mask and it fits well to the skin. It is a bit small as my forehead is not completely covered.
The essence feels like a lightweight lotion, has a milky texture but doesn’t feel sticky on your face. Do monitor your sheet mask from time to time, this sheet mask can dry out in 15 minutes. I put it on for 15 minutes and some outer part of the sheet mask is drying out.
This sheet mask has a mild gentle formula and it’s suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin. It is formulated without fragrances, alcohol, and colorant.
The ingredients are looking good on this sheet mask. First of all, hyaluronic acid that retains your skin’s moisture. It revitalizes the skin and reduces fine lines. Apart from that, it also contains lipidure. If you haven’t heard of lipidure, it has 2x ability to hold your skin’s moisture compare to hyaluronic acid. This mask also contains amino acids. I think this mask definitely worth trying out with all these notable ingredients.
Before I put on this babyish mask, the water content in my skin is 35.7%. My skin’s water content boost up to 55% when I remove the mask after 15 minutes. The water content maintains at 43.3% the next morning.
Mandom Barrier Repair Pure Oil Mask Rosehip Oil
Mandom has come out with many different types of sheet masks in the past. It’s one of the most trusted brands when it comes to sheet mask (IMO). It’s not hard to notice that Mandom always design sheet masks that deliver good result without causing irritations on the skin.
Similar to other barrier repair sheet masks, this sheet mask also formulated without preservatives, alcohol, artificial fragrances, and artificial colors.
This sheet mask feels soft and thick but adheres firmly on your face. It is infused with rosehip oil that is moisturizing and helps break down pigmentations, dark spots and acne scars in your skin. In addition, it also contains squalene and glycerin. Both ingredients are known for their moisturizing properties for the skin.
Before I put on this barrier repair mask, the water content in my skin is 37%. My skin’s water content boost up to 48.4% when I remove the mask after 15 minutes. The water content maintains at 41% the next morning.
Even though this sheet mask did not give the most dramatic change on my skin but it keeps my skin really moisturize throughout the night. My skin still feels smooth and moisturize the next morning at 41% of water content.
On a side note, if you have oily but dehydrated skin, maybe this sheet mask is not for you.
Kose Cosmeport Clear Turn Premium Royal Jelly Mask
Want to try something different? This premium royal jelly might be the one. The texture of the essence is completely different from other masks you’ve tried. It looks like jelly and feels like jelly as well. The material of the sheet mask feels very similar with the Kose Clear Turn Babyish mask, maybe because they are manufactured from the same company.
There are a couple of noteworthy ingredients in this sheet mask. For instance, coenzyme Q10, royal jelly extract, and argan oil. Not only these ingredients improve dry skin conditions, but they also provide great anti-aging properties to your skin. Your skin will feel plump and youthful at the same time.
Before I put on this premium royal jelly mask, the water content in my skin is 25%. My skin’s water content boost up to 43.3% when I remove the mask after 15 minutes. The water content maintains at 38% the next morning.
Even though this mask doesn’t provide the highest level of hydration but it does retain the skin’s moisture quite well. The water content in my skin slightly dropped when I wake up the next morning.
Minon Amino Acid Mask
Minon Amino Acid mask uses a thin and soft sheet mask material together with a light texture of essences. The sheet mask fits pretty well on the skin. One sheet mask contains 22ml of essences, and it feels really lightweight on the skin.
Most of the products from Minon are suitable for dry and sensitive skin. With that being said, it is formulated without fragrances, colorant, alcohol, and mineral oil.
The best thing about this mask is it contains 9 types of amino acids such as Serine and Arginine to replenish dry skin. Amino acids can be found in our body naturally, and it plays a vital role to keep our skin smooth and hydrated. This mask will be very beneficial for those has a weak skin barrier.
Arginine is known of its ability to repair our skin’s damage. In addition, serine replenishes the moisture and boost collagen production.
Before I put on Minon Amino Acid Moist Mask, the water content in my skin is 37.2%. My skin’s water content boost up to 50.9% when I remove the mask after 15 minutes. The water content maintains at 42.8% the next morning.
Hence, Minon Amino Acid Moist Mask is excellent to replenish your skin’s moisture and my skin’s water content still maintain at 42.8% the next morning.
