5 Reasons to Use a Pre-Serum

Pre-serum has been in the beauty game for a while now. Some people think they are just a marketing strategy, while others think it works like a charm.

I’m going to agree with both of the opinions. Why is that? I think some pre-serums work great on my skin, some did absolutely nothing to my skin.

In my opinion, if you have healthy and young skin, it’s most likely the pre-serum will not give an impressive result on your skin. Most pre-serums are designed to boost hydration and allow skin care products to penetrate deeply in the skin.

With that being said, if your skin doesn’t have any problem related to those issues, there’s a high chance that you will not feel anything on your skin.

Contrarily, if your skin is aging and your skin care products do not seem to work like they used to be before. Then maybe a pre-serum will elevate your skin care to the next level.

These are the top 5 reasons that you should absolutely try to add a pre-serum to your skincare routine. Click here to find out my current favorite pre-serum.

  • Boost Hydration Level
  • Your Skin Care Products Penetrate Better
  • Strengthen Your Skin Barrier
  • Anti-aging
  • Give You a Better Complexion

Boost Hydration Level

Our bodies are made up of 50 percent of water. Therefore, hydration is always the most important element for healthy skin for all skin types. Your body and skin need adequate hydration to be at their best state.

Keeping your skin hydrated also means you are keeping your skin healthy and balance. When your skin is unbalanced, skin problems such as flakiness or acne starts to show on your skin.

Dehydrated skin might start producing excessive sebum to keep the skin moisturized. But, it might end up causing acne and blackheads.

Most pre-serums are infused with highly moisturizing ingredients that keep your skin plump and youthful. Hydration is essential for all skin types. We are losing water from our body every day, thus, everyone is in need of replenishing their skin with hydrating ingredients.

Pre-serum is a good product to start with to hydrate your skin because it is extremely lightweight and suitable for all skin types. It also preps your skin so your skin absorbs the next skin care products better.

If your skin is constantly feeling tight and flaky, try using a pre-serum and it might help reduce the discomforts.

Your Skin Care Products Will Penetrate Better

One of the main purposes of using a pre-serum is to enhance the skin’s ability to absorb skin care products. Ever feel that your skin did not absorb well no matter what you apply on? Try to incorporate a pre-serum into your skincare routine. You will soon notice the difference.

I’ve tried four different pre-serums and I definitely can feel the differences on my face whenever I use one.

Pre-serums contain hydrating ingredients that keep skin moist and hydrated. Damp skin feels like a sponge and it’s able to absorb the products quicker and deeper.

That’s why they work more effectively compare with the days I don’t use a pre-serum. I’ve tried to pair a pre-serum with a hydrating serum and a whitening serum. Both of the serums work really well together with the pre-serum.

My skin just seems to be brighter and moisturizing the next day. They also absorb into my skin a bit quicker into my skin whenever I apply them after the pre-serum.

Basically, whatever products that you apply to your skin, the effects will multiply.

If you try all the ways you could but your skin just doesn’t seem to absorb the product well, you should probably give pre-serum a chance and see how it goes.

It Strengthens Your Skin Barrier

Most of us are born with healthy and strong skin barrier to protect and defend our skin from external aggressors. Sadly, many of us took that for granted.

Sometimes, we damaged our skin barrier without noticing it. Harsh cleanser, environmental pollutants, and aging are all possible reasons that will damage our skin barrier.

Our skin barrier becomes weaker then our skin started to show signs like tightness, itching, and redness.

Using a pre-serum will strengthen your skin barrier and boost hydration level which defends your skin from environmental aggressors. When your skin barrier becomes stronger, your skin will naturally have smoother textures and supple.

From my personal experience, most pre-serums are mild and gentle to all skin types. I’ve never experienced any discomfort while applying pre-serum even on my extremely sensitive skin.

With that being said, you can use a pre-serum even when your skin is feeling sensitive.

Not all of the pre-serums contain ingredients that will strengthen the skin barrier. But those that claimed to do so deliver it quite well on my skin.

Anti Aging

No one likes sign of aging, we all wish to stop the time and always looking young and beautiful. That is why anti-aging products are always popular among women.

As we age, our skin becomes dull and dry then fine lines and wrinkles started to show.

Apart from that, our skin also loses its elasticity and eventually started to sag. In other words, our skin loses hydration and produce collagen in a really slow pace.

Pre-serums boost hydration and smooth our skin texture to keep it soft. The moisture in our skin reduces fine lines and keep our skin looking youthful.

However, pre-serums are not exactly same with anti-aging serum, and definitely can’t replace it. Pre-serums are more effective on younger looking skin that just started to show signs of aging.

Most of the pre-serums are light in texture and have a watery consistency compared to serum. Therefore, it feels weightless and absorbs quickly into your skin. It gives a mild anti-aging effect, not a strongly corrective one.

If you are around your 40s-50s, you need a potent serum to correct and improve signs of aging. Skin will develop deeper lines and sagging problems.

On the contrary, if you are a teenage girl and early 20s, pre-serum can be a good first serum to start with.

It provides hydration and mild anti-aging effects to your skin. In addition, it has a light texture and will not feel heavy on the skin. You know, just a boost of hydration to keep your skin supple and soft.

It Gives You a Better Complexion

Pre-serums improve your complexion and make your skin look brighter.

Dull skin is a very common problem nowadays due to impurities and environmental factor. Dull skin makes you look tired and flat. Common reasons that you are experiencing dull skin including aging, stressed, and dry skin.

Pre-serums with nutritious and hydrating ingredients are effective in banishing dull skin. Hydration helps the skin flush toxin out from our skin. When the toxin is accumulated inside your body, your skin will naturally look fatigue and dull.

Besides that, pre-serums improve blood circulation and bring oxygen to the skin. Oxygen is great for glowing skin. Think about the skin you get after you had a workout.

Whenever you exercise, your skin is supercharged with oxygen. That’s the reason why your skin often feels energized and glowing after exercise.

Pre-serums helps the blood circulation and accelerate skin cells turnover. With that being said, your skin tone becomes more even and skin is looking resilience and radiant.

How to Apply Pre-Serum

I always refer pre-serums as a step zero in my skin care routine. The textures are varied, however, most pre-serums feels like a toner in a rich texture.

There are mainly two ways to apply pre-serum. One of them is applied right after you washed your face and another one is applied right after toner. Regardless, they pretty much give you the same effect which is hydration and enhance the effects of your skin care products.

Pour some pre-serum in your palm and evenly apply to your face. Gently pat your face until the pre-serum fully absorbed.

Do you know that moist evaporates within 10 seconds after washing your face? For that reason, the best timing to apply your skin care products is after 30 seconds you cleaned your face.

This is because your skin will be able to retain the moisture as much as they could when your skin is still damp. And I’ve read this on different Japanese magazines a few times.

On top of that, I also think pre-serum prolong the time for you to apply your skin care. It’s so-called the appetizer for the skin that lived up to its name.

Pre-serum keeps your skin’s moisture also allow skin care products to penetrate deeper and perform better on your skin.
